Item #68731 : Original period manufacture. Polished steel blade measuring 35 inches in length, running straight and true. Clear markings on the ricasso's, reverse Mansfield & Lamb Forestdale R.I., obverse U.S. 1865, with inspector's initials of C.E.W.. Steel patina blade surface with no rust issues, there are a few nail catchers in the edge, overall the blade presents very well. Original leather bumper at the base of the blade. Brass patina finish to the guard, basket & pommel, original leather wrapped grip bound with single strand brass wire. Surface scuffing to the leather grip, with a section of exposed wood at the pommel. Dent free steel scabbard with a postwar, perhaps GAR Hall, copper plating to the surface.
