Original period manufacture. 54. caliber, percussion carbine designed by General Ambrose Burnside prior to the American Civil War. It became the third most widely used model of carbine, exceeded only by the Sharps and Spencer types. The carbine exhibits an overall even dark steel patina finish, the hammer holds on half and full cock. The block drops down as it should and a rather battered percussion cone is in place. At some point in time the sling swivel bar and ring were removed, and the screw is missing from the right side of the breech. The wood stock and grip are in decent shape, exhibiting an old varnish application. The bore needs a good cleaning but I saw a shine to the metal when attempting to get a flashlight in there for a peek (I've misplaced my borelight, darn it), with plenty of twist visible. The bolt does not match as shown, but overall a pretty decent old smokepole for the price. US Sales Only. **Please be certain you are permitted to own antique weapons in your state or town.
