Original period manufacture. A wonderful old saddle in amazing condition for its age. Original rawhide covered tree (one small split in a seam) with its original 11 1/2 inch seat brass shield on the pommel, all other brass escutcheon plates are present. All iron hardware is in place now displaying a corrosion patina surface. Terrific original brass Allegheny Arsenal oval tag on the left rear side bar. The side skirts are sound and pliable with all of the screws in place. On the off side skirt evidence of rowel marks can be seen in the surface of the leather. The quarter straps are also sound and pliable for their age. The fronts of the leather shod stirrup covers are also Allegheny marked and dated the on side shows 1863, and the off side 1864. The off side stirrup strap shows a bit more wear than the other, but remains pliable; an original carbine thimble is attached as shown. Please note the enlisted shell jacket in the last photo is not included in the price.
