Original period manufacture. A nice quality strike, with it's original ribbon. As this medal was not authorized until 1905, less than 10,000 of the nearly 2,000,000 Union soldiers who served during the greatest crises in our nation's history received this medal. America's "Other" Greatest Generation. Of interest, the last surviving Union soldier of the Civil War, Albert Woolson, died in 1956. The last Civil War widow, Helen Viola Jackson, died in 2020. This medal is of more recent construction, good quality, with a crimp brooch suspension.
