Original era manufacture. Purchased recently from an old Arizona collection is this Zouave pattern, Civil War era bayonet.'The polished steel blade measures 21.5 inches in length, with a bright finish, and displaying evidence of old cleaned corrosion. The cast brass guard and grip is secured with a single steel pin through the grip and tang, with a short lock spring bar and securing screw. The stud groove opening is almost square shaped, running the full length of the grip, and terminating midway through the muzzle ring.At the time of our purchase, the bayonet was paired with this great old leather scabbard which at one time had an attached pair of belt loops.See page 141, figure 121, in The American Bayonet 1776-1964 by Albert N. Hardin Jr. for a similar example. In his text he describes similarities with the Plymouth Rifle bayonet.
