Original era manufacture. Seven concentric rings in the body, these rings were an attempt to strengthen the bodies for use. Covered in an old silver-gray paint with a painted inscription, " U.S.Civel (sic) War Canteen-went through the war" and what looks like Gettysburg Pa. Dents to the steel body resulting in some paint loss, dark steel patina beneath. Neat old canteen.
