Original era manufacture. An interesting example of this pattern sword, exhibiting features found on both the 1840, and 1860 pattern cavalry swords. The 35 inch polished steel blade with a flat-backed spine, typically encountered on the 1840 pattern sword. The leather covered grip has a "swell" midway, a feature generally seen on the 1860 pattern sword. These unique swords were imported by Philip S. Justice of Philadelphia, whose name can be found on the reverse ricasso of the blade. The blade displays a few shallow "nail-catchers" on the edge, but remains in original polish, with some scattered staining to the surface without corrosion issues. The leather bumper is in place at the base of the blade, sidling up to the flaf of the guard. Pleasing brass patina to the three branch guard and pommel cap. Intact leather wrapped grip which is bound with single strand twisted brass wire. Dark steel patina finish to the steel scabbard, which is relatively dent free. Attached to the two suspension rings is a length of old leather, perhaps made from a period saber suspension strap.
