Original era photography. A shoulders-up image of Captain William E. Van Wyck (1841-1915), Company F, 131st Regiment, New York Infantry. Served in the 7th New York, then joined the 131st NY in August 1862, discharged for disability September 1863, reenlisted in the 131st NY in April 1864 (Company G) and discharged July 1865 in Savannah Georgia. During the Civil War the 131st New York suffered the loss of 197 men, killed, mortally wounded or disease. Period penciled inscription on the reverse.
