Original period photography. Sepia tone full length image of a Union officer wearing his slouch hat with cap cord and overcoat. He is shown in the position of "rest" with his unsheathed sword before him being held in place by his white-gloved hands. The image is clear enough to make out the engraving on the blade. No back mark, just a simple pencil notation of "Uncle Gene".
