Original era manufacture. Robert Sutherland, a native of Scotland, was 38 years old when he mustered into Company G, 79th New York Infantry. His military career was short lived, as he was captured during the battle of 1st Bull Run in July of 1861, he received his parole a few weeks later. The 79th New York was a three year regiment comprised mostly of men of Scot descent. At the battle of 1st Bull Run they suffered the loss of 198 men, killed, wounded or prisoner. Purchased as part of the collection of a 94 year old local WWII veteran, who collected Civil War memorabilia for most of his life.
