Original era manufacture. Standard Civil War discharge document issued to Private Leander Taylor of Company C 22nd Maine Infantry in 1863.Private Taylor was a 37 year old soldier serving in a 9 month regiment assigned to the Department of the Gulf. During the service of the 22nd Maine it suffered the loss of 1 officer and 8 men killed or mortally wounded, and an additional 2 officers and 169 men to disease. Their most notable service was in the Siege of Port Hudson, which ended with the surrender of the fort on July 8th 1863.Normal handling and wear, folded, with water stains in the margin, the writing remains clear and readable.
