US Civil War Era, M1841-1842 Musket Tool, Modified

Original period manufacture. I believe this to be a modified example of the US M1841-1842 musket tool, which now has an opened end wrench, rather then a box-type wrench, with the main body screwdriver tip narrowed for a smaller screw. Overall length is 87 mm. On page 155, in the book Gun Tools; Their History and Identification, by Shaffer, Rutledge and Dorsey, a similar example can be seen in the lower photograph right side. That tool has the reinforced sides to the wrench head as this example does. The wrench opening on our example measures 11 mm.
