Original era manufacture. A very nice example of this relatively unknown pattern of bayonet, of which a number of variations exist. This bayonet exhibits a 22 11/16 inch blade, Collins & Co. Hartford Conn. marked on the reverse ricasso. The blade is quite clean for its age, with minor staining along its length, and light corrosion pitting at its base. Cast brass guard and grip, which is secured to the blade by a single steel pin through the guard. The serial number 9074 appears on the top of the grip. The bayonet is complete with its original black leather bodied scabbard with brass chape and throat. The stitching is very sound, with very minor marring to the leather surface, with no lifting or flaking. See page 141, figure 121 in The American Bayonet 1776-1964 by Albert Hardin Jr for a complete description
