Original period manufacture. A breech-loading, percussion carbine, produced in .50 caliber, serial number 20735. Very clear markings on the side plate, with traces of blue in the protected areas and an even steel patina finish to the remainder of the metal components. The loading lever and lock mechanism work properly, revealing a bright bore and strong rifling. The metal finish is basically smooth with some shallow surface pitting areas around the forward part of the receiver. The hammer does not hold on half cock, but does on full cock until the trigger is pulled, the cone has been pretty well hammered down from dry-firing and the clean out screw is pretty buggered up. For the most part, the remaining screws are in decent shape, and have not been attacked with an undersized screwdriver. Original finish to the wood stock with patch box, showing honest evidence on the reverse side of the stock from period saddle time and contact with the trooper's sling swivel. Small chip in the top of the stock near the rear of the receiver as shown. There is an intriguing tiny heart and diamond cared into the left side of the stock. A decent example showing honest service and wear.
