Original era manufacture. All steel construction with a clean blade, and a dark steel patina finish to the guard and scabbard. The 32 inch double etched blade is clean, with some scattered nail catchers along its length. It runs fairly straight with a very slight bend about 8 inches back from the point. Intricate pierced steel basket guard, steel backstrap and pommel, fishskin grip bound with triple strand copper wire. There a few creases in the surface of the scabbard due to service use, but none hinder the drawing or insertion of the blade. Nice honest Civil War Union officers sword.
