Original era manufacture. Lightweight, 1840 pattern cavalry sword, with Iron Proof on the spine. On the obverse ricasso can be seen, Horstmann & Sons Philadelphia, and on the reverse, the kings head proof of the firm of Weyersberg. The polished steel blade measures 31.5 inches in length, runs straight and true, with a bright steel surface, showing areas of old cleaned corrosion.Nice mellow brass patina to the three branch guard and pommel cap; original leather wrapped grip bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire.Dent-free, dark patina steel finish scabbard with two carrying rings, with evidence of cleaned corrosion and pitting. This is an interesting sword, patterned after an 1840, but lightweight, like the later 1860 model. Thousands imported during the American Civil War.
