Original period photography. A clear image of the Colonel shown seated, cradling a deluxe presentation sword with figuaral grip in the crook of his right arm. On his left arm he wears a mourning armband. Placed on a table next to him is his forage cap with an embroidered Infantry bugle, Fitchburg Mass photographers logo. Colonel Upton, a 45 year old merchant, commanded the 25th Massachusetts Infantry during the Battle of Roanoke Island in 1862.
