Subject is shown in civilian dress, with a period ink signature on the revrese. Fitchburg Mass. photographer with tax stamp. The 53rd Massachusetts Infantry served with in the Department of the Gulf, suffering the loss of 5 officers and 28 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded, and an additional 144 enlisted men due to disease.
