Original period photography. This was a recent purchase of ours, our seller stated that this had come from a local estate who were about to throw the album away, as they didn't recognize any of the photographs of the people inside. The album is complete as far as we can tell, as the original owner carefully wrote in pencil, the names and identities of the notables he or she placed inside. There are entries for 24 images, with 23 remaining, 16 of those having strong Civil War content, with the addition of a wonderful image of two adorable little girls with their dolls. The remainingsix I would describe as, "just folks", nothing remarkable, but honest representations of people of time. We will list the most interesting images in the order in which they appear in the album; Little Girls With Dolls, General George "Pap" Thomas (Anthony NY Backmark), General Phil Sheridan (plain reverse), General George Gordon Meade, Commander Army of the Potomac (Cole, Saunders & Co. Army News Agents), Mrs Adele Cutts Douglas, wife of Senator S.A. Douglas(Brady negative, Anthony Publishing)Montgomery Blair, Postmaster General (plain reverse), Governor Horatio Seymour of New York (Brady negative, Anthony Publishing).Archbishop Hughes of New York (plain reverse), General Robert E. Lee, CSA (tax stamp reverse)General Longstreet CSA (named reverse), General A.P. Hill CSA (plain reverse)General Hardee CSA (named reverse), General Nathan Bedford Forrest CSA (Anthony Backmark, Cole, Saunders & Co, Army News Agents). General John Hunt Morgan, CSA (plain reverse), John Wilkes Booth (S.T. Blessing New Orleans backmark). Two unknown Union soldiers (plain backmark), identified Union officer CDV, John Neil McMillan, Co. I, 122nd Illinois Infantry. The blue leather covers of this Civil War era CDV album are very sound, all of the cardboard pages are secure to the binding. A wonderful photographic archive from 150 years ago.
