Original era manufacture. Diamond shaped, 30 inch blade with a central ridge on each side. Decorative floral panels on each side of the blade, U.S. on side, eagle on the other, Ames trade name on the ricasso. The blade runs fairly straight and true with a slight drift to the left about 6 inches from the point. Mix of steel patina and light cleaned corrosion to the surface. Original leather bumper at the base of the blade. Decorative single branch brass guard and pommel cap, with a clamshell guard only on one side. Black composition wrapped wooden grip bound with single strand of twisted wire. Steel bodied scabbard with brass fittings. The surface once boasted a plated finish now mostly a steel patina, relatively dent free. Attached to the suspension rings is an elaborate set of Fraternal type linked brass hangers.
