Original era manufacture. Sound, black bridle leather thimble, with a black paint finished iron adjusting buckle. These were placed on the off-side quarter strap of the 1858 McClellan saddle, and served to steady the barrel of the trooper's carbine, which was suspended from his shoulder on a large strap with snap-hook. Once available in the 1000's, Bannerman had so many he sold them as match, or toothpick holders. Not any more, a nice item of Civil War surplus.Normal age and wear, no damage, likely never used.
