Original era manufacture. Sound condition, black bridle leatherthimble, with a blue finished iron adjusting buckle. Minor surface corrosion on the adjusting buckle, otherwise a very nice example. These were placed onthe off-side quarter strap of the 1858 McClellan saddle, and served to steady the barrel of the trooper's carbine, which was suspended from his shoulder on a large strap with snap-hook. Once easily available in the collecting market, Bannerman had so many he sold them as match, or toothpick holders back in the day. Not any more, as with many items considered merely surplus, decent examples have become difficult to find.
