Original period manufacture. Two page letter written 25 April 1862 to the commanding general at Fortress Monroe. The letter was written by the father of 1st Lt. D.M. (David Mifflin) Brodhead, Adjutant of the 14th US Infantry. He states "he has no pistol, holster etc, being sent care of the US Quartermaster Fortress Monroe". Lieutenant Brodhead died of wounds received during the battle of the Wilderness, brevetted Captain for his service.
