Original era manufacture. Another wonderful condition Civil War sword from the same old Arizona collection. This time the M1840 US Army NCO sword made by Roby, and dated 1865.Flawless 32 inch polished steel blade with clear markings on the ricasso and the red leather bumper still in place at the base of the blade. Brightly polished cast brass guard and grip with a mellow brass patina. The guard is bent slightly downwards, perhaps done so as to not dig into the side of the wearer.Sound, black leather bodied scabbard with tight seam stitching, with crazing to the surface of the leather body but no bends or breaks. Polished brass scabbard fittings which are held in place with four tiny brass screws. The blade fits the scabbard properly, being a little tight as it closes and stops just 10 mm short of closing the gap.
