Original period manufacture. A well used example but retaining honest charm, 1862 date and an unusual makers name. The blade measures 27 inches in length, running straight and true. Etched panels of a Naval motif on each side of the blade, these are fairly clear, with the blade being free from major corrosion issues, just staining from age and wear. The edge has not been sharpened. Marked on the ricasso with an 1862 date on the obverse, and on the reverse, Collins & Co. Hartford. Above the Collins name is the retailers name, Shannon Miller & Crane New York. Cast brass guard and pommel cap with the initials USN. No grip covering or wire binding remains, however the ribbed wood grip remains sound. No Scabbard.
