Original era manufacture. Wide blade, measuring 27.5 inches in length, running straight and true. There are etched panels on each side of a military motif with the letters USN. Stamped into the obverse ricasso are two proof marks, the first a crowned B or F within a shield, the second the letter S, also within a shield.Nice quality gilded brass guard and pommel with a fishskin grip with a single strand of twisted wire binding. The hilt is tight, with just a touch of wear on the grip below the pommel cap. Sound black leather bodied scabbard with no creases in the body. Gilded brass fittings with a knotted rope design on the suspension bands. The stitching has opened up between the two suspension points, but is pretty much intact below the second point and top of the chape.
