Original era manufacture. Standard 1860 pattern cavalry sword, with a 34 inch polished steel blade, produced by Ames 1863, with ADK inspector initials on the blade and pommel. The blade is bright running straight and true, with light spotting to the blade surface, and minor surface corrosion at the tip, evidence of an old service sharpening to the cutting edge. Original leather bumper at the base of the blade. The brass three branch guard and pommel cap displaying a mellow dark brass patina finish, with some light denting or distortion of the guard. The original leather wrapped grip is intact, with a scuffed finish, showing flaking of the original surface. Bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire. Dent free, dark steel scabbard with two suspension rings, the surface showing dark surface patina. Overall this old sword is sound, tight, with no rattling, and is in uncleaned, attic condition. The blade fit is a little tight in the scabbard.
