Original era manufacture. Standard 1860 pattern cavalry sword, with a 34 inch polished steel blade, produced by Ames 1864, C.E.W. inspector marks on the base. The blade runs straight and true, with a darkish steel patina finish and light spotting to the blade surface. There are a few small nail catchers on the edge, original buff leather bumper at the base of the blade. The brass three branch guard and pommel cap has a mellow brass patina finish, with some light denting of the guard. Most of the original leather wrapped grip covering remains, with exposed wood visible. Bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire. Dark steel patina finish scabbard with two suspension rings, minor scattered denting from service use. The blade fits the guard properly.
