Original era manufacture. Standard 1860 pattern cavalry sword produced by D.J. The blade measures 34.5 inches in length, runs straight and true with a blue finish to its surface. No corrosion issues to speak of, however there are several nicks in the cutting edge from service use or backyard sword fights. US over the inspector initials CEW and date of 1862 on the obverse ricasso, on the reverse the name and city of the maker. The original leather bumper is in place at the base of the blade. Mellow brass patina to the three branch guard with some minor distortion to the branches from service use, the pommel cap is also marked in two places with the CEW inspector initials. Original leather wrapped grip bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire. Attached to the guard is a good quality reproduction black leather sword knot. Blue steel scabbard with two carrying rings, very minor surface corrosion and denting. The saber and scabbard fit one another properly.
