Original era manufacture. Standard 1860 pattern cavalry sword, with a 35 inch polished steel blade, produced by Emerson & Silver in 1864, inspected by C.E.W.. The blade exhibits an even steel patina finish, with traces of an old plated finish remaining on the ricasso. The blade runs fairly straight and true, no corrosion issues, with a few minor nicks in the cutting edge. The brass three branch guard and pommel cap displays a mellow brass patina finish, with minor distortion to the upper branch. Original leather wrapped grip in sound condition, with minor scuffing to the finish, bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire. Even dark steel patina finish to the scabbard, minor shallow dent on one side. Overall a very sound example of the classic Civil War cavalry sabre which served unchanged in army service until 1906.
