Original era manufacture. A very sound example, featuring a polished steel blade measuring 35 inches in length. Scattered spotting and staining with areas of cleaned surface corrosion. Running one's hand along the cutting edge will reveal a few very shallow nicks, beyond that the blade is very sound. Buff leather bumper at the ricasso, cast brass three branch guard, with a leather wrapped grip bound with twisted single strand brass wire. At the time of our purchase this sword was without a scabbard. Digging through our pile of extra scabbards we found this one which fit the blade perfectly. It is a bit more massive than a standard 1860 pattern, likely from the earlier 1840 style sword. The blade fits well, no binding and draws very easily. Old dark corrosion finish to the scabbard surface but no weak areas, very sound with both suspension rings in place. This sword was one of many souvenirs purchased from the family of WWII Corporal R.D.Easler, 3468th Ordnance Company, US Army.
