Original era manufacture. Standard issue Cavalry sword of the American Civil War 1861-1865.US proofed, and 1864 dated on the obverse ricasso, the reverse is plain, perhaps indicating Ames manufacture, notorious for their faint makers marks.The blade is bright, runs fairly straight and true, with typical graying and spotting to the surface but no pitting. There are some very minor nicks in the cutting edge, about 7 all told, but scattered along the length.Pleasing brass patina finish to the three branch guard, with is deeply struck with unit numbers, 8M7, next to the pommel. Standard leather wrapped grip with twisted wire binding.
