Original era manufacture. Standard 1860 pattern cavalry sword with a 35 inch polished steel blade. This example was produced by C. Roby 1863, with the AGM inspector initials on the base of the blade. The blade is clean running straight and true with light spotting to the blade surface and no nicks in the edge. Original leather bumper at the base of the blade. The brass three branch guard and pommel cap displays a mellow brass patina finish with some light surface age staining and minor distortion of the guard from service use. The original leather wrapped grip is intact, but I believe cleaned at some point in the past, with a few spots of surface flaking at the edge of the pommel cap. Bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire. Dent free steel scabbard with two suspension rings. The surface shows evidence of an old cleaning with a light application of blue to give it a patina surface. Overall this old sword is sound, tight, with no rattling, the blade fits the scabbard properly.
