Original era manufacture. Standard 1860 pattern cavalry sword, with a 34 inch polished steel blade, running straight and true. No issues to the blade beyond some minor staining and spotting from age, no corrosion damage. U.S. & 186 proof on the obverse ricasso, the reverse is unmarked, or cleaned away. Ames produced swords are known for the faintness of the makers logo. Mellow brass patina finish on the guard and pommel, with the number 26 appearing on the top of the pommel and flat of the guard. Leather wrapped grip showing some wood exposure below the pommel, the twisted wire binding is intact. Steel scabbard with a period tinned finish, showing some surface finish loss and light denting towards the drag. The sword draws easily from the scabbard.
