Original era manufacture. Standard 1860 pattern cavalry sword, with a 34 inch polished steel blade, produced by Mansfield & Lamb in 1863. The blade is clean, runs straight and true, with numerous spots of mottling to the blade surface. U.S. 1863 proof on the obverse ricasso, the reverse has a worn Mansfield & Lamb Forestdale R.I. logo. The brass three branch guard and pommel cap displays a mellow brass patina finish, with numerous property or unit markings on the surfaces. The original leather wrapped grip is intact, with a scuffed finish, showing wear of the original surface. Bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire. No scabbard. Overall, this old sword is quite sound, tight, with no looseness to the guard.
