Original era manufacture. Classic, Civil War, US Navy cutlass which as the story goes, were still in the arms lockers of US Navy Destroyers during WWII..."Away Boarders!" I wonder if the US Navy boarding party on the U-505 were carrying any similar?Polished steel blade measuring 26 inches in length. Sheet brass cupped guard with brass pommel with a ridged wooden grip with its black leather covering remaining intact. The cutlass is in sound condition, displaying normal age and use. The blade has a bright finish, showing some scattered nail-catcher nicks to the edge, but no corrosion pitting. The original markings are very faint, typical for Ames edged weapons, but also perhaps the result of US Navy maintenance in keeping the blades free of corrosion. Stamped into the obverse ricasso are several property markings, these being an anchor over the letter P, with QG below. A solid example overall, tight, no rattles with a damage free cup.
