Original era manufacture. Classic, Civil War, US Navy cutlass which as the story goes, were still in the arms lockers of US Navy Destroyers during WWII..."Away Boarders!" I wonder if the US Navy boarding party on the U-505 were carrying any similar?Polished steel blade measuring 26 inches in length. Sheet brass cupped guardwith brasspommel with a ridged wooden grip withits black leather covering remaining intact.The cutlass is in sound condition, displaying normalage and use.The blade has a bright finish, showing some scattered nail-catcher nicks to the edge, but no corrosion pitting. The original markings are very faint, typical for Ames edged weapons, but also perhaps the result of US Navy maintenance in keeping the blades free of corrosion. A solid example overall, tight, no rattles with a damage free cup.
