Original era manufacture. A very nice example of this relatively unknown pattern of bayonet, of which a number of variations exist. This bayonet exhibits a 20 inch blade, with no makers markings except for a small capital letter H on the reverse ricasso. The blade is quite clean for its age, with minor staining along its length, and light corrosion pitting at its base. Cast brass guard and grip, which is secured to the blade by a single steel pin through the guard. The muzzle opening measures 22 mm, with the letters BH on the top of the grip, and a small capital letter C on the reverse center of the guard. The bayonet is complete with its original black leather bodied scabbard with brass chape and throat. The stitching is very sound, with very minor marring to the leather surface, with no lifting or flaking. Mounted to the scabbard is a good quality black leather frog, while exhibiting honest age, I do not feel that it is contemporary to the bayonet, perhaps a re-enactment piece done in the 60's. See page 99, figure 74 in The American Bayonet, 1776-1964 by Hardin for a similar example.
