Original period manufacture. Clipped signature, "very respectfully, your obd serv, Robert Anderson, Major USA". Nicely framed with a full color image of him standing on the ramparts of Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor. Frame measures roughly 9x15 inches. Robert Anderson, 1805-1871, West Point class of 1825. He commanded the garrison of Fort Sumter in April 1861 when bombarded by Confederate forces under the command of P.G.T. Beauregard. Promoted to Brigadier General, he retired from active service in 1863 due to illness. Interestingly, during the time Anderson served as an instructor at West Point, P.G.T. Beauregard was one of his students
