Original era manufacture. US Civil War Ohio Veterans medal named to Jno Sohner, Co. L. 1st Regt. L. Art. The medal at some point in the past lost it's suspender and ribbon, but is otherwise in sound condition. Wurttemberg born John Sohner was 36 years old when he enlisted in Battery L on 20 January 1862. He served throughout the war, receiving his discharge at Columbus Ohio on 4 July 1865. Comes with a research file.There is a monument to Battery L at Gettysburg, it reads; Captain F. C. Gibbs Battery. L First Ohio Light Artillery, Artillery Brigade, Fifth Corps. Arriving on the field at 8 a.m. July 2, went into position under a brisk skirmish fire on the extreme right of Wolf Hill. Afterwards moved to north slope of Little Round Top, and there became hotly engaged with Longstreets Corps then trying to turn the left. Held same position July 3.
