Original period manufacture. An attractive, multi-color emblem of Lady Liberty, with its original postage stamp, and a very clear cancellation from Port Royal, South Carolina. Four line poem at center.The envelope was mailed (likely by a Union soldier) to a young lady in Middleburg Center Pennsylvania. Port Royal was occupied by Federal troops from November 1861 until the end of the war in 1865. The envelope was opened on the right side. Normal handling and wear.
