Original period manufacture. A very handsome sword bayonet with Yataghan style blade and a cast brass guard and grip. The blade measures 22.5 inches in length with the makers name COLLINS & CO. HARTFORD.CONN. in an arc on the reverse ricasso. The blade is quite clean for its age with just some light staining but no pitting. The grip has the serial number 8977 stamped into it on the top of the grip next to the bayonet stud slot, inspectors initials FCW on the pommel. The scabbard is very sound, stitching is tight with no cracks or creases in the body. Only issue is that the muzzle ring is bent slightly to the rear. Wonderful 150 year old bayonet.
