Original era manufacture. A very sound example of a typical Union soldiers canteen of the American Civil War 1861-1865, complete with its original blue wool cover, cork stopper & chain, and white cotton shoulder strap.The canteen body is quite clean with glimpses of the original tinned finish visible, courtesy of the small scattered moth bites in the wool cover. The cover itself does have some mothing, but nothing unexpected in a 150 year old canteen. There are a few minor dents in the body, but again, nothing unexpected, and overall it is quite presentable.Sound original cotton shoulder strap, displaying minor soiling and staining from storage wear, I doubt if this old canteen ever saw a drop of water.
