Original era manufacture. A tarred or painted linen knapsack issued to Federal Infantrymen during the Civil War 1861-1865. This example shows the typical fabric tears and separation encountered with these old things. All of the original metal buckles and hooks remain,the end of one of the shoulder straps hastorn away, the remaining straps are intact but dry from 150 years of storage.
