Original era manufacture. A very clear image of a Union soldier in an Infantry frock coat. Lying on a photographers table next to him is his porkpie hat, with cap cord, regimental number 109 and company letter G., with a Mathew Brady New York backmark on the reverse. The 109th New York Infantry was a three year regiment raised in August of 1862. It saw combat with the 9th Corps at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Siege of Petersburg and Weldon Railroad. Suffering the loss of 165 officers and men killed or mortally wounded, and an additional 164 enlisted men dying of disease. Purchased as part of the collection of a 94 year old local WWII veteran, who collected Civil War memorabilia for most of his life.
