Original era document. A handwritten order, on Headquarters, Second Division,Twenty-Third Army Corps stationary, dated May 6th 1864. It advises that this command will begin a march at daylight tomorrow, with the men and officers carrying4 days rations, and blanket, upon their persons. No wagons were to be used for transport. Signed by a 1st Lieutenant John Welsh, acting assistant Adjutant General. In the lower right margin is written, Capt. Paddock, Battery H, 1st. Mich. in red ink. This was the opening of the Atlanta Campaign and Sherman's March to the Sea. Purchased as part of the collection of a 94 year old localWWII veteran, who collected Civil War memorabilia for most of his life.
