Original era manufacture. A bright tinned steel bodied canteen with a pewter spout, with original cork and chain intact.Brown wool cover is basically intact, with a few scattered moth holes, revealing the bright tinned finish beneath. Original and complete, 1.25 inch wide canvas strap with a brass adjusting buckle.A scarce example of an early post-Civil War issue canteen.
