Original period manufacture. A very nice identified set which tells the story of a US Sailor who served aboard the USS Vesuvius and USS Hannibal during the years of his service in the US Navy, 1903-1907. The set includes the following: wide brimmed sailors "Donald Duck" style hat with a cap ribbon from the USS Hannibal, two issue blue wool jumpers, both named and with decorative stitching around the base of the flap, pair of wool bell bottomed trousers, two black silk ties, pre Navy service marksmanship medals from the Rhode Island Militiaand a grouping of period photographs of the sailor aboard the Hannibal. All of the items are in good general repair with a few spots of period mending to be seen on the trousers. We did a search for our sailor on Ancestry.Com and found a listing for a grave marker in his name in 1947. His service was listed as USN, USS Vesuvius with his date of birth in 1884 and his burial in Hanover NJ in 1947. The Vesuvius was the famous Dynamite Gun ship of Spanish American War fame. Nice little grouping with lots of research potential.
