Original era manufacture. A beautiful example of a souvenir badge presented to the members of American Great White Fleet, who attended a welcoming party at the Shinjuko Goyen, held in Tokio in 1908.With the badge are two period postcards which are date cancelled on the reverse honoring the Tokio visit.The badge resides in its original balsa wood box, which displays a handwritten description on its lid; "On 21st October 1908, the admiral of the US Squadron and Admiral Togo had a garden party at Shinjuki Goyen.Then, this badge was made as the memorial, this was hosted by Admiral Togo and attended by US Admiral Sperry and members of the crew of the US Fleet. The badge is in near new condition, the printed American flag is mint and Japanese silk flag has one small hole as shown, with an enameled oval shaped badge at the top.The postcards come with a thin paper envelope with a printed design of crossed flags.
