Original period manufacture. A nice example of a G.Woodbury Sub-inspector marked Civil War Era percussion cap box. Maker marked on the inner flap W.M.Wilkinson, Springfield Mass. It still retains the wool lining, no nipple pick. These were modified by the 10th Cavalry in the early 1890's as a spare pistol ammunition pouch, mounted to the lower end of a modified holster. Light markings on the outer flap, over the Woodbury stamp, is a large capital letter F, at the center of the Woodbury stamp the number 10, and below the number 24. These markings identify the soldier as serving in F Troop, 10th Cavalry, 24 Man. Very clean condition, light age and wear.
